Abstract: This study investigates academic dishonesty among undergraduate commerce students using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB).A total of 579 respondents from three tertiary institutions in the Western Cape in South Africa completed an online survey about their attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control towards academic dishonesty, their intentions to engage in academic dishonesty behaviours and their previous academic dishonesty behaviour.Correlation analyses indicated significant, positive relationships between all of the antecedents of the TPB. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) methodshowed that the antecedent variables of the TPB were significant predictors of academic dishonesty behaviour and provided support for the use of the TPB in predicting academic dishonesty behaviour. The information in this study can be used to further understand the occurrence of, and students' perceptions towards academic dishonesty. This information can be used to design interventions to prevent academic dishonesty at tertiary institutions.
