Abstract: The article argues that insurance services, while being a fast developing segment of the financial market, still need a further theoretical generalization. The article presents analysis of the notions insurance and insurance services and shows the difference between insurance services and insurance products. The author holds that the universally accepted interpretation of the notions insurance and insurance services in foreign and domestic literature is absent. The article notes main features of an insurance service as an object of international trade. The author concludes that insurance per se is a wider economic category and includes narrower notions of insurance services and insurance products. The said approach may also be used when analyzing several categories of the financial, and particularly the banking sector.
