The utilization of human resources in tourism SMEs: a comparison between Mexico and central Florida.
Year: 2005
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: This chapter describes and compares the results of two separate studies that were conducted in Mexico and central Florida, USA, for the purpose of collecting information on current and future utilization of human resources in small and medium-sized tourism enterprises, with special emphasis on training and education activities. It is revealed that issues such as 'industry social status', employee preparation and post-employment recruitment and retention appear to be key drivers in both regions. The chapter then proposes a series of recommendations to the respective private and public sectors of each region, in order to address some of the critical issues identified in each of the studies.
