Type: dissertation
Abstract: This research aims to analyze the importance of play and executive functions in children ages 0 to 5. A literature review was performed based on related topics and prominent authors that discuss these issues. The information found also referred to early schooling and its resistance to learning through play due to fear adults have today towards this activity as part of the school curriculum (Almon , 2009). As for play and executive functions, this investigation analyzed their features, functions and benefits to later connect them together and answer the following question: how can play stimulate the development of executive functions in children ages 0-5 years? As a result, it was concluded that play develops different skills in children such as: self-control, private speech, working memory and problem resolution. For this reason, it was stated that play is an essential tool to work executive functions and foster the growth of successful children in their academic life, social relationships and in the formation and achievement of goals (Bruner, 1983 in Singer, Michnick and Hirsh -Pasek, 2006).
