Abstract: This article was written when, in the field of work studies, the tayloristic idea of work still dominated and the hypothesis of encountering the live presents of an individual- of subjectivity - in the work place could appear as a paradox. It focuses on work as place of debate, a space always possible to negociate where execution does not exist, but use and the individual in his totality is invited into the activity. As such, work always involves the use of onself. There is use of oneself by others since work is, in part, determined by norms, prescriptions and values historically constituted. Also, there is also use of oneself by oneself, because the workers renormalize the prescriptions and create singular strategies to confront the challenges of their surroundings. This contradictory tension can only be aprehended in research that articulates and requestions the knowledge of researchers with the experience of the workers.
