Abstract: This text is part translation, part reformulation of a few chapters of my book L’invenzione del vero. Romanzi ibridi e discorso etico nell’Italia contemporanea (Gaffi 2014). It was first presented in English as a lecture at the University of Kent in 2013. It investigates the new period of Italian literature often called ‘Nuovo Realismo’ from an ethical point of view.
