Influence of post-injury ultrasound treatments on skeletal muscle regeneration.

Year: 2005
Type: article
Abstract: Non-thermal ultrasound (US) is commonly used in an attempt to improve tissue repair and regeneration, although the efficacy of this practice is not firmly established.US is normally described in terms of duty cycle and spatial averaged intensity (SAI; W/cm2).The combination of these two, spatial averaged temporal averaged intensity (SATA), provides an indication of total energy delivered per unit of time. There is an untested suggestion that using non-thermal US treatments with an equivalent SATA, but that use different combination of duty cycle and SAI might produce different results.Following skeletal muscle injury there is a relatively defined series of events that take place during repair [1][2][3] .Previous research has investigated only a few dependent variables CHAPTER 1
