Abstract: Gender bias is widespread and needs to be acknowledged and addressed by the scientific community. In this Guest Editorial, M. Resmini, Professor of Materials Chemistry at the Queen Mary University of London, describes how supervisors can play an important role in addressing the ‘leaky pipeline′, namely, the progressive loss of capable women from STEM disciplines.
