Abstract: As technology becomes increasingly important as a means of supporting older people at home, thedangers of distress caused by the introduction of inappropriate technology become greater. Thispaper discusses the argument for ‘in-home’ research with the frail elderly and describes some ofthe issues that the UTOPIA project has encountered in carrying out such research
