Narrativ eksponeringsterapi som terapeutisk tilnærming i møte med flyktninger og asylsøkere: en litteraturgjennomgang
Year: 2015
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Refugees and asylum seekers report a high level of trauma-related mental health problems, compared to the general population. However, research on treatment of traumatized refugees and asylum seekers in a western setting is scarce. Current research indicates that Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is an effective approach in treating refugees and asylum seekers suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). NET is a standardized and manual-based short-time therapy initially developed for refugees who live in an unsafe environment. In recent years NET has been applied in western countries. This literature review shows PTSD- symptom reduction in all samples that has completed treatment with NET. However, the reduction in the diagnostic status of PTSD is moderate. It may be due to a significantly uneven distribution of refugees and asylum seekers in the samples, the size of the samples, therapeutic tradition, and the design of the studies.
