Can Employment Prevent Risk Behavior? The Role of Socio-Emotional Skills
Year: 2016
Type: preprint
Abstract: This paper employs unique experimental data to identify the causal effects of employment on the risk behavior of young adults. For this purpose, we exploit the exogenous variation induced by a youth training program which successfully increased employment. The program was not designed to affect risk behavior directly. We find no significant effects of employment on the probability of engaging on risk behavior; yet, we see improvements on the risk behavior of those individuals with higher socio-emotional skills.
