Maintaining a Knowledge Base Using the MEDAS Knowledge Engineering Tools.

Abstract: This paper describes the process by which a medical expert creates a new knowledge base for MEDAS, the Medical Emergency Decision Assistance System. It follows the expert physician step by step as a new disorder is entered along with its relevant symptoms. As the expanded knowledge base is tested, inconsistencies are detected, and corrections are made, showing at each step the available tools and giving an example of their use.
