Japanese Interests on Sub-Saharan Africa in the Meiji Era Bibliography of Sub-Saharan Africa for 1968-1912
Year: 2008
Type: article
Abstract: In May 2008, TICAD IV will be held at Yokohama. Accordingly Japanese interests on Africa seem to increase rapidly. Relation between Japan and Africa has been considered to start after 1960, the year of Africa. However Japanese people in the Meiji era had started to collect African information immediately after the Meiji Restoration. In comparison with books on Nanyo (South East Asia and Pacific areas), similar numbers of publications on Africa were made in the Meiji era. Here I attempted to compile the bibliography of sub-Saharan Africa (books only) in the Meiji era based on the predecessors' research results.
