Abstract: 310 GEARS questionnaires for robotic prostatectomies (RP) and partial nephrectomies (RPN).We evaluated agreement between residents' self-assessment and those assessing them using intraclass correlation (ICC) and correlation of individual GEARS component scores to other GEARS components within each group of evaluators (attending, fellow, resident, surgical tech) using Spearman's correlation coefficient (r).RESULTS: Overall ICC of resident performance was 0.75 (95 % CI 0.35,0.92)when all four evaluator scores were available.Correlation between components with GEARS for trainee evaluation varied by evaluator type. For attending surgeon evaluations, Depth Perception had the lowest correlation with other GEARS metrics (r¼0.49-0.59,p<0.0001).Manual dexterity had moderate correlation with other parameters (r¼0.72-0.77,p<0.0001).Efficiency, Force Sensitivity, and Autonomy had very high correlation with other GEARS metrics (r¼0.77-0.87,p<0.0001).Fellow evaluations found significant correlation across all GEARS metrics (r¼0.81-0.96,p<0.0001).Such high correlations were not seen in either scrub tech scoring or resident-self evaluations.CONCLUSIONS: The routine use of GEARS immediately following completion of surgery as part of a formal robotics curriculum demonstrates reasonably high ICC between resident self-assessment and GEARS assessment by relevant evaluators.Overall, correlation between individual GEARS components is higher from surgeons with more surgical experience (attending and fellow surgeons). As distinct groups of evaluators, fellows tend to vary their GEARS assessments the least, while only select metrics given by attending surgeons highly correlated.
