Abstract: Fluorescent pyrimidine analogs containing a fused biphenyl unit were prepared in high yields using stereoselective N-glycosylation and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions. The resulting "push-pull" fluorophores exhibit highly solvatochromic emissions from twisted intramolecular charge-transfer (TICT) states.
