Abstract: The purpose of this article is to review the diagnostic procedures and genetic analysis in making differential diagnosis of a case having similar symptoms of Rett and Angelman syndromes. Both syndromes are known to be neurodevelopmental genetic disorders and resemble each other in respect of their clinical symptoms and signs. The differential diagnosis can be done by conducting genetic analyses. MCEP2 mutations in Rett syndrome and small deletions on chromosome 15 in Angelman syndrome were detected. Here a final diagnosis of Rett syndrome was reached by detecting MCEP2 mutation during genetic analysis. İki sendrom da nörogelişimsel genetik bozukluklardır ve klinik belirtileri birbirine benzerdir. Ayırıcı tanı, ancak genetik inceleme ile yapılabilir. Rett sendromunda MCEP2 gen mutasyonları, Angelman sendromunda ise 15. kromozomda küçük delesyonlar saptanmaktadır. Olguda genetik inceleme sonucu MCEP2 mutasyonu saptanarak Rett sendromu kesin tanısı konulmuştur.
