Abstract: Objectives Know the anthropometric characteristics of climacteric women, the frequencies of obesity, android pattern and their relationships with blood pressure and metabolic changes. MethodsA cross-sectional observational study was carried out with 518 patients between 45 and 65 years old, not using hormone therapy, at the Climacteric Outpatient Clinic of the Catholic University of Campinas. Age, color, menopausal status, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, lifestyle habits, personal and family history of hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia and obesity were considered. Blood pressure data, lipid profile measurements and fasting blood glucose were dependent variables. The Wilcoxon test, Pearson's chi-square test were used, with a significance of 5% and logistic regression analysis. ResultsThe majority of patients were white, postmenopausal, non-obese with an android pattern and sedentary. A quarter were smokers and a fifth were alcoholics. Less than half reported an adequate diet, had hypertension and high levels of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides. More than 60% of the group had HDL-cholesterol levels and Castelli I index of cardiovascular risk and around a quarter had hyperglycemia. Conclusion The results showed women with high hypertensive and metabolic risk attributed to the frequencies of obesity and android profile and to the relationships between obesity, central pattern, postmenopausal status, sedentary lifestyle and history of hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia with high blood pressure levels, atherogenic lipid profile and hyperglycemia.
