Immobility: A microdata analysis

Year: 2003
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This paper reports the results of a disaggregate analysis of immobility, i.e. the report of not having left the house on any one day in a survey period. The cross-sectional and the panel results indicate that immobility is a random process, which cannot be properly predicted on socio demographic variables alone. The results also indicate that the high estimates common in the literature (20-25% on any one day) are too high to be consistent with a longitudinal view of human travel behaviour and too high considering what is known about behaviour from other sources.
