Serial Survivors: Women’s Narratives of Surviving Rape
Year: 2011
Type: preprint
Abstract: Rita Shackel reviews Jan Jordan’s Serial Survivors. This book provides a unique window into the survival journey of a group of women attacked by one of the most prolific serial rapists in Auckland’s history. It makes an important contribution to understanding the trauma associated with sexual violence and the resilience of victims. Rita Shackel’s review explores Jordan’s style, her empathic approach and acute attentiveness to the needs of the women interviewed. It is argued that Jordan produces a dignified medium through which these women can tell their stories and have their voices heard.
