Effects of spirulina and its complex prescriptions on exercise capacity and free radicals metabolism in mice
Year: 2000
Type: article
Abstract: The experiments were carried out in mice to investigate the effects of spirulina (SA) and its complex prescriptions (SACP)on exercise capacity and energy metabolism .The general health condition of the animal during the experimental period, the endurance swimming duration, the content of MDA and the activity of SOD in the serum, liver and muscle were observed or determined. The results showed that SA or SACP was effective in improving the general health condition of the mice and strenthening the swimming endurance as manifested by the prolongation of the swimming time. results also showed significant decrease in MDA contents, increase in the activity of SOD in the serum, liver and muscle of the mice treated with SA or SACP.The effects of SACP seems to be better than that of SA. These indicated that SA and SACP were of effectiveness in elimination of fatigue and strenthening the capacity endurance exercise training with a great future for applying in sport midicine.
