Abstract: The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA) co-sponsored an important international research symposium, which was organized by Dr. Monica Liebert of NIDDK and Dr. Vickie Ratner of ICA. The quality of the research in interstitial cystitis (IC) has significantly improved since Dr. Liebert joined the NIDDK, bringing with her a distinguished bladder research background. The meeting focused on the latest in basic and clinical bladder research, with a specific focus on IC. Approximately 300 clinicians and scientists participated. Some of the presentations are included in a special supplemental issue of Urology. Here we review some of the highlights from the meeting.
