Redes transnacionales de organizaciones indígenas. Análisis del uso de las redes en conflictos socioambientales
Year: 2016
Type: article
Abstract: The article is the result of a doctoral research project that addressed the issue of contemporary indigenous policies by analyzing the formation and use of transnational networks of indigenous organizations within the context of socio-environmental conflicts. It was a case study involving a transnational indigenous coalition and three socio-environmental conflicts caused by the installation and development of extractive exploitation projects. The theoretical focus entailed a review of the concepts of civil society, transnational social movements, and ethnicity. The last of these was done considering that ethnic vindication is explained by the formation of supra-local and transnational ties. In the case analyzed, the leading role played by non-governmental organizations within this network was evident.
