Abstract: As guest editors in ELECTROPHORESIS, we are grateful to be a part of the exciting special issue, "Neuroproteomics: Deciphering Brain Dynamics". This special issue contains 9 reviews and 17 research articles that cover various topics in neuroproteomics with focus on using either conventional or novel proteomics and/or mass spectrometry-based methods to further investigate the molecular basis of central nervous system (CNS)-related disorders such as neurodegenerative diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders. There are a variety of techniques described in this issue including 2DE, stable isotope labeling by amino acids in cell culture (SILAC), as well as discovery and targeted mass spectrometry-based quantitation of peptide/protein abundance. These tools have been employed to study numerous CNS disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, brain injury, schizophrenia, autism, multiple sclerosis, prion disease, stroke and depression.
