Defibrotide for Hepatic Veno-Occlusive Disease/Sinusoidal Obstruction Syndrome with Multi-Organ Dysfunction: A Concordance Analysis Between Day+100 Complete Response and Survival
Year: 2016
Type: article
Abstract: Hepatic veno-occlusive disease, also called sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (VOD/SOS), is a potentially life-threatening complication of hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) conditioning, which may cause injury to sinusoidal endothelial cells and hepatocytes. Severe VOD/SOS (typically defined by multi-organ dysfunction [MOD]) may be associated with >80% mortality. Defibrotide has a proposed mechanism of action that includes stabilization of endothelial cells and restoration of thrombo-fibrinolytic balance.
