Evaluación de preferencia por la forma o la textura de dos tipos de objetos en ratas Wistar Evaluation of the preference for shape or textures of two kinds of objects in rats

Abstract: !e object recognition task, based on the ethological paradigm \nof novel preference, has been used as model for testing episo-\ndic memory processes in rats. In this model, it is assumed that \nthis preference depends on the novelty of the object; although \nthe e"ect of the features of the objects on this preference has \nnot been veried yet. In order to test this assumption, two \nexperiments were carried out. In the rst one, sixteen rats \nwere exposed simultaneously to di"erent objects with di"e-\nrent shape and texture. In the second one, #een animals \nwere exposed to two objects that only di"er in their texture. \nPercentages of frequency and time of interaction with the \nobject were recorded. !ere were no signicant di"erences in \nthese measures in both experiments. Based in these results we \nconclude that the preference observed in the object recognition \ntask it is not primarily caused by the shapes or the textures of \nthe objects. !ese results suggest that the use of these featu-\nres are pertinent for testing the episodic memory in rats.
