Abstract: Dependence to opiates is a chronic relapsing brain disease that can cause major health, social and economic problems [1]. Dependence vulnerability is affected by environmental factors, drug-induced factors and hereditary factors, which represent approximately 40–60% of the risk of developing dependence [2]. Illicit drug use could lead to epigenetic changes in DNA methylation which may play an important role in the development of chronic substance abuse by enhancement of drug reward, craving and relapse use [3,4]. Epigenetic factors could be also responsible for vulnerability to drug response, dependence and addiction treatment response [5].
