Multi-component returns to scale: A DEA-based approach

Abstract: Efficiency modeling in Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) has generally been studied to derivation of a single measure of efficiency. In the current paper, efficiency is viewed from a multi-component perspective. We first, define a multi-component efficiency model. Then, we define ”returns to scale” in multi-component environments and propose a method for identifying the nature of returns to scale. An illustrative application of the methodology to a sample of bank branches is given.
