Cancellation and Intention
Year: 2010
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: Robyn Carston (2002) has claimed that explicatures can be cancelled. I argue that cancellation of explicature is logically impossible and empirically incorrect. Instead, it should be thought of as clarification of speaker’s intended explicature. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
