Abstract: A family with presenile dementia of the Alzheimer variety is described. The index case, a 49 year-old man with a 4 year history of progressive dementia, and one of the affected siblings were studied from the neurological, neuropsycological and paraclinical stand points. Likewise, the older members of the family were studied. Nine members of the family through 4 generations were found to be affected. The mean age of onset was 47.6 years and the mean duration of disease was 8.5 years for the deseased cases. A high degree of inbreeding was an outstangind finding. Many features suggesting an autosomic dominant pattern of transmission are underlined.
