Abstract: The author reflects on the 40th anniversary of the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) in 2016, and it mentions assessments of the health of U.S. nurses, as well as the views of several American Public Health Association (APHA) members who participated in the NHS cohort study. The NHS II and Growing Up Today Study (GUTS) research programs are examined, along with the attitudes of various mothers and daughters who were involved in the NHS. Public health history in America is also assessed.
