Cost and Outcome Analysis of Autologous Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Mobilization with Plerixafor and G-CSF vs. Cyclophosphamide and G-CSF in Patients with Multiple Myeloma: A Reassessment in View of Increased Costs of Cyclophosphamide
Year: 2016
Type: article
Abstract: Plerixafor (PLX) plus granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) and cyclophosphamide (CY) plus G-CSF are commonly used to mobilize peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) for autologous transplantation (PBSCT). Previous studies showed statistically similar costs of these two mobilization strategies, with the increased cost of PLX balanced by the increased costs associated with complications of CY administration, including neutropenic fever, transfusion needs, and hospitalizations. Since 2011, the cost of CY has increased approximately 20-fold, while PLX costs increased 10%.
