Abstract: For many patients with hematologic malignancies, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is the only option for cure. Unfortunately, traditional donor options have been limited for a significant percentage of the population, especially for those other than non-Hispanic whites. Haploidentical transplant (haplo-HSCT) has transformed the field because >95% of patients have an available donor [1]. Although early trials using haplo-HSCT had many difficulties, including high rates of graft-versus-host disease and graft failure, advances in both in vivo and ex vivo product manipulation have demonstrated adults with hematologic malignancies may have similar outcomes with haplo-HSCT as with HLA-matched HSCT [2].
