Stool PCR for Clostridium Difficile Toxin B Is Frequently Detected at the First Stool Assay in the Immediate Peri-Transplant Period in Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) Recipients

Year: 2016
Type: article
Abstract: Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is a common complication following allogeneic HSCT. Myeloablative conditioning and underlying diagnosis of leukemia have been described as risk factors of CDI in allograft recipients whereas beta-lactam administration is protective against subsequent CDI. However, the utility of C. difficile testing in the immediate peri-transplant period and its clinical implications has not been fully described.
