Serotherapy-Related Fevers, Blood Stream Infections (BSI), and Antibiotic Use in Pediatric Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplant (HCT) Recipients

Abstract: Serotherapy (ST) is a common component of allogeneic HCT conditioning regimens due to its immunomodulatory effects. Fevers and other allergic reactions are known to accompany ST use. Our standard procedure is to use empiric antibiotics in patients with fevers. We hypothesized that few ST-related fevers represent true BSI. We retrospectively collected data on 94 children receiving ST, including adverse events (AE), antibiotic use, and BSI until 60 days post HCT. All children were premedicated with corticosteroids, antihistamines and antipyretics.
