Abstract: Recent work has revealed the importance of goals in multiple types of everyday decisions. The current work extends the Stochastic Difference Model (SDM, González-Vallejo, 2002) to account for decisions in goal-relative environments.SDM was originally developed to account for choices involving trade-offs and it successfully accounts for a number of empirical results in decision making. The current work develops and tests an extension that theoretically captures known effects of goals on decision making using the same basic structure and assumptions of SDM.The model as proposed fails to account for new data from two experiments designed to test unique model predictions. An alternative version of SDM is shown to account for data in one time decisions.
