Abstract: The following thesis analyses the film "A Hora e a Vez de Augusto Matraga", directed by Roberto Santos and based on the short story by Guimarães Rosa, in order to understand how the film director reinvented the subjects found in the literary text, such as violence, religiosity, revenge and dishonor.The analysis focuses on his directing choices (camera movements, angles and framing), the actor's work, sound track, editing and script, so it can draw a comparison between the said movie and the literary work of Guimarães Rosa, especially the novel Grande Sertão: Veredas and the short story from Sagarana.As a result, it elucidates the way the elements in the literary text are used in the film, and establishes the differences and similarities between them.
