Abstract: The fast breeder reactor is briefly described with especial regard to the fuel and its emplacement within the core.The need for computer codes to analyse the complex behaviour of fuel pins is emphasised and the code used throughout this work, FRUMP is introduced.The code is described in detail and the method it uses to solve the stresses, strains and temperatures at every radial node is outlined.The various models contained in the program are described and compared to current theories.Conclusions are drawn on the accuracy of the models and any changes that should be made to them.
