Abstract: Cities, from the twentieth century, became the center of wealth creation generating agglomerations. This rampant growth prompted the development of serious environmental impacts due to poor waste disposal in the environment. To get around this, some laws were created in Brazil in order to minimize impacts and preserve the environment, creating tools to aid in the decision-making process of the Government, especially local, since it is closest to local problems. This article will discuss general aspects of the Master Plan and the concept and importance of environmental zoning and what is its role in drafting the Master Plan, and to discuss the impact caused by the absence of environmental zoning in the effective implementation of the Master Plan, based on literature research.
