Abstract: The authors reflect on changes involving substance use disorder (SUD) treatment under the U.S. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), and it mentions American President Barack Obama's public health legacy, as well as the potential impact that the ACA will have on an opioid epidemic in the country. Medications for opioid use disorder patients are examined, along with health insurance coverage for SUD treatment services and the U.S. 2008 Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act.
