Case-matched results of trabectome ab interno trabeculectomy versus ahmed glaucoma implant

Abstract: Purpose: Ab interno trabeculectomy (AIT) with the trabectome (Neomedix, Tustin, CA, USA) is a 10-year old, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) that lowers the intraocular pressure (IOP) by increasing aqueous outflow by ablating the trabecular meshwork. Although trabectome has been compared to trabeculectomy, a comparison to aqueous shunts has not yet been published. Conclusions: In this retrospective study of AIT matched to AGI, there was no difference in IOP lowering at 1 week and 1, 3, and 6 months. At 1 year, AGI patients achieved a lower IOP that required twice as many drops as AIT.
