Abstract: This report explains in brief how the palm oil production system is set-up and how by-products of palm oil extraction (Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB), Mesocarp Fibre, Shells and Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME)) are generated in the Palm oil Mill and what the composition of each stream is. Then the options are shown for improved energy efficiency and alternative uses for the by-products and additional income generation while reducing the GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions.
