Damage detection via transmissibility enhanced with similarity analysis and principal component analysis

Year: 2016
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Structural damage detection still encounters some difficulties in operational conditions, as environmental variations impose difficulties in real engineering; this study proposes a methodology employing transmissibility "compressed" by principal component analysis, with distance measure and similarity measure analysis in order to reach less computation consumption and better performance in early stage damage detection. In this damage detection procedure, transmissibility is estimated from the vibration responses and main features are extracted by principal component analysis so as to reduce the necessary computation but still retaining the main characteristics; distance measure and similarity measure are then taken into consideration for constructing damage indicators; finally a free-free beam is adopted to validate the proposed methodology, and results show promising future in potential engineering use.
