Abstract: Rail transport has an irreplaceable role within theinternational and national transport market. The effective
support of railway transport is necessary for maintain
sustainable development in European area and support of railway
transport is one aim of European Union. The article is focused
on the operation characteristic of rail freight corridors in
the Slovak Republic and their capacity consumption by the
common rail operation – passenger and freight.
