Nonmyeloablative Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) Improves Cardiac Function in Patients with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)
Year: 2017
Type: article
Abstract: Introduction: Cardiopulmonary complications including systolic and diastolic dysfunction are increasingly being recognized as leading causes of death in adults with SCD. HSCT is the only curative option available. We sought to determine whether HSCT improves cardiac function. We examined changes in transthoracic echocardiographic (ECHO) parameters, and modeled their association with laboratory values characteristic of SCD pathology.
