Abstract: Nanoparticles (NPs) such as quantum dots, metal nanoparticles, metal oxides, magnetic nanoparticles, liposomes, etc are a new class of materials that are gaining popularity for disease diagnosis. These have unique properties that include 3-100 nm diameter, size dependent optical, elctronic, and magnetic properties. Some of the NPs are highly magnetic, highly conductive, and fluorescent with broad excitation spectrum.NPs called quantum dots are unique in their emission spectra even with the use of ordinary source of light while magnetic nanoparticles are unique because of their highly magnetic nature.
