Abstract: In Argentine, Corrientes is de most important Pine forestry region whit 262.940 hectares. The main species used in the region are Pinus taeda and Pinus elliottii x Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis (hybrid). For Pinus taeda, most authors agree that materials from the State of Florida and Marion County, specifically are superior in growth in volume. For straightness, reported gains close to 10% for Livingston clonal seed orchards. In the region, in recent years has increased the area of plantations with hybrids of Pinus elliottii x Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis. Some advantages of this hybrid are its high productivity, adaptability to poor drainage soils, better straightness and thin branches. Aiming to evaluate productivity, straightness and wood quality, was installed in 2012 on the campus of the University of Salvador (Virasoro, Corrientes), a trial of provenances with P.taeda and Pinus elliottii x Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis. The design was complete randomized blocks with 6 replications and 6 plants in line plots were used. 2 local orchards of Pinus taeda (Marionand Livingston), 2 families F1 hybrid and a F2 seed of hybrid area were evaluated. At 2.5 years old, percentage of survival (% S), the diameter (DAC) and the total height (HT) were measures. For S % there not were significant differences between provenances. The average value of survival was 82%. For DAC and HT statistical differences were detected at 1%. For some authors, the variable height measured at early ages is the best predictor of productivity at ages advanced forest species (Gwaze et al. 1997, Schenone, 2009). For the present study, there is a trend to further development in height of the orchards of Pinus taeda, in second place are the F1 families of Pinus elliottii x Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis. Finally and with significant differences and poor development in height is the hybrid F2.
