133 Suppression of Unstable Vibrations in Rotating Machinery Utilizing Discontinuous Spring Characteristics
Year: 2005
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Unstable vibration occurs in the vicinity of the major critical speeds of an asymmetrical shaft system and in a wide range above the major critical speed of a shaft with a hollow rotor containing liquid. The occurrence of unstable vibrations is a serious problem because the amplitude increases exponentially and causes destruction. In this paper, a new simple method to suppress unstable vibration utilizing discontinuous spring characteristics is proposed. The unstable vibration changes to an almost periodic motion and we can suppress amplitudes to an arbitrary magnitude even in an unstable range.
