P-OS2-2 Development of an optically driven metalized microturbine using two-photon microfabrication
Year: 2012
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: We have developed a metalized microturbine driven by scanning a laser beam. The metalized microturbine was fabricated by the combination of two-photon microfabrication and electroless copper plating. The blade angle of the metalized microturbine was optimized by evaluating the optical force exerted on the blade via two-dimensional electromagnetic field analysis. As a result, the optimized blade angle was 45 degree. In experiments, we succeeded in driving the microturbine at a high speed over 270 rpm by scanning a low-power laser beam less than 1 mW. Such optically driven metalized micromachines will be useful for functional lab-on-a-chip devices.
