Abstract: This article provides an overview and comparison of particle verbs in the Germanic languages, giving examples of the construction in German, Dutch, Afrikaans, Yiddish, English, Icelandic, Norwegian, Faroese, Swedish and Danish. In particular, we will survey some of the basic morpho-syntactic properties of particle verbs, which have given rise to varying syntactic approaches to the phenomenon.
