A Bioinformatics Tool to Identify Nested Motifs

Year: 2017
Type: article
Abstract: Nested motifs detection in genomic sequences is a complex problem. Identification of nested motifs is important for the finding insertion of transposable element (TE), deletions and mutations. Finding the same motif in regulatory regions of multiple genes’ will assist researchers and biologists to find regulatory and evolutionary relationship among those genes. Our objective is to develop a tool to identify individual TE and nested motifs i.e., Motifs within motifs and motifs flanked by motifs. The algorithm finds the TF binding sites (also called motifs) in the promoter regions of the genomes. TF affects gene expression by binding to a particular site in the corresponding gene’s regulatory region. The approach used in this tool is Sliding window and pattern analysis. This pattern analysis approach can be combined with currently used methods to allow for the identification of nested motifs that are otherwise not possible to find with current methods.
